How Polyphenols affects aging

A practical shorthand: color and a little bitterness on the plate are usually good signs.

If you use extracts — green tea EGCG, quercetin, resveratrol — respect that concentrated doses behave differently from food: high-dose green tea extract has been linked to rare liver injury, and quercetin and resveratrol can interact with blood thinners and other medications. Absorption notes: pair fat-soluble polyphenols like curcumin with a meal containing fat, and drink tea between meals rather than with them if your iron status is low, since polyphenols bind iron.

The trial record for isolated polyphenol supplements is underwhelming — resveratrol in particular has repeatedly failed to replicate its early promise in humans. The strong evidence sits with polyphenol-rich foods and diet patterns. Spend the money on good olive oil, berries, and tea first.

Does adding milk to tea or coffee cancel the polyphenols?

Milk proteins can bind some polyphenols, and studies disagree on how much that matters — some show reduced antioxidant activity in blood, others show little difference in absorption. The effect appears modest either way. If you love milk in your tea, keep it; total intake across the day matters more.

Does cooking destroy polyphenols?
